DEARMOND ROWE R15 ORIGINAL VINTAGE GUITAR AMP VERY RARE - $2,000 - (Oberlin, OH)
You are looking at one of the most rare and desirable guitar amps of all time. The DeArmond Rowe R15 was only manufactured in 1959 - 1960 (and possibly into 1961) and is widely regarded as among the finest combo amps ever built. It was also re-branded by the Martin Company and sold as the 112 with slightly different cosmetics during the same period. Several contemporary manufacturers have attempted to reproduce this amp (notably ToneQuest) but the consensus is that they don’t match the sound quality of the original. One of the most desirable features of this 15 watt amp is it’s harmonically rich and expansive clean tone at low volumes and it’s smooth Marshall-like overdrive at higher volumes. Most top player regard these amps to be superior to their classic fender tweed counterparts and they sell (when they are available) for up to $6.000 in top condition. This amp has a number of cosmetic issues. The original tan colored tolex was spray painted black prior to 1976 when I acquired it. There is also some black paint on the edges of the grill cloth from over- spray. There is some corrosion on the faceplate and some of the lettering has rubbed off (although everything is still legible). The original speaker was replaced at some point with a 1964 Jenson, and the DeArmond badge is missing from the grill. The good news is that I have kept this amp well maintained over the years and it is in top working condition with minimal replacement of components other than tubes. I’m selling this amp with a lot of regret but I have a pressing need for cash to cover some large and unexpected expenses. You may never see another one of these for sales so don’t miss the opportunity to own one of the most legendary and rare original vintage amps ever manufactured.
