SCARCE 1886 $10 FR-296 "Tombstone" Silver Certificate PCGS AU58!!! - $19,999 - (Hamburg, NJ)
The 1886 $10 Fr-296 Silver Certificate with Large Spiked Brown Seal & Roscrans/Nebeker signatures is a truely rare note in any condition. There are 65 recorded examples according to my census. In the last decade the census has grown by a mere 13 examples with no increase in the AU and higher population. Current pop reports show 26 graded at PMG & 26 at PCGS Currency. Of these combined 52 certified examples there are 12 AU's and 5 CU's. I'm pretty certain that many of the high grade examples (like this former PMG 55 "Great Color") have been graded by both services so that AU/CU pop is likely a bit inflated. This PCGS AU58 example has the look of a GEM. It has excellent centering, intense color & the reason for the AU grade is not discernable through the holder.
