"LOT OF TWO UNIQUE ORIGINAL GELATIN SILVER PRINTS" DEPICTING DOWNTOWN NEW YORK CITY'S LOWER EAST SIDE These 2 original works of art are being offered at 'No Reserve', and were created by the artist (American, b. 1949). Critics have cited the work as being the successor to the 1890's downtown New York city work of Jacob Riis, as well as 20th century chronicles by Berenice Abbott for her ‘Changing New York’ series. The artist has maintained the tradition of Riis, and Abbott by shooting the series in black & white film and producing gelatin silver prints in a wet darkroom. Each photograph is printed on 8x10 paper with a 1/4" white border. The second print is of a wall of billboard pastings sponsored by Target for what would soon become the now famed New Museum located on the Bowery. This print is made on Fiber based paper. (*Note this print also has a small pinhole at each of four corners where it was mounted for a museum studio visit). Awards for this project were made with public funds from the Manhattan Community Arts Fund and supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. The artist also received a Henry Street Settlement Photographer-In-Residency award for the series, made possible by the Andy Warhol Foundation. The artist has been published nationally, is listed in the ArtFact auction database and has works in both museum and private collections.
