Antique, All Hand Sewn, 19th Century Maine, Summer Weight Cotton Quilt, 70"x 80" - $55 - (Richmond, VA)

This zig-zag pattern quilt was purchased at an estate sale this past summer in Maine. It is entirely hand stitched and all cotton with light, thin batting. The pink color in the quilt is actually a small raspberry polka dot print on white broadcloth. There are a few little holes, and there are areas of slight discoloration as shown in the photos-- both stain and fading. (I'm selling "as found" without attempting to treat the stains.) It's expertly hand quilted at 9-10 stitches per inch and the edging is an applied narrow binding about 3/8" wide. No loose or broken threads found and the bound edge is not frayed. The quilt top was created by combining long panels of triangles, offset to create the zig zag pattern. The quilting patterns are zig-zag and half-rosettes. This lovely, old quilt has that very soft feel that only an entirely hand stitched quilt can offer. I'd estimate that it's from the late 1800s or very early 1900s. A wonderful find. measures approximately 70"x80"
