Southern Magnolia boards, rough cut 4/4", finished at 3/4" with one straight edge. Various widths, mostly 11"+. This is beautiful wood came from an old specimen tree, cut because it was too big and too close to a house. The log came to us through the Shady Grove Preserve Sustainability Initiative as payment for milling the rest of the tree for the home owners. -They have a beautiful magnolia kitchen now. Its rare to find this lumber today, but Magnolia was a favorite furniture and box/trunk wood of early settlers in the south. It is a large hardwood with great strength and nail holding ability yet it is stable, easy to cut and work. and does not tear out appreciably. It turns and planes well. It is a favorite for parquetry because it holds its clear yellow color even under wax and makes a great contrast when used with the other hardwoods like, oak, cherry, hickory, walnut, sweet gum, and even cedar. This set of 7 book matched boards are plain sawn from one log. They are 1" 11"+ wide. The the heart slabs are also available, bookmatched 2" x 11" x 12'; perfect for countertop or kitchen bar.
