Ancient North American Large Mortar & Pestle Grinding Stones - $450 - (Willits, CA)
In this listing is an ancient grinding tool (mortar & pestle stones). I acquired these, plus a number of arrowheads, and points, years ago from a friend, who has since passed away, who inherited them from his fathers estate. He told me the arrowheads were from Sonoma County, Calif., found in the Santa Rosa area, where his father and grandparents lived, and he also thought that these grinding stones were from somewhere in Northern California too. The large mortar used to grind acorns, corn, etc. measures approximately 9" in diameter and 5 1/2" high. The bowl is around 3" deep, and its pestle measures 7" long by 2 1/2" thick. I would guess that this bowl weights in at around 20 pounds, and feels ancient like it was used for centuries. Its pestle stone even has an indentation in it where a persons thumb would rest as they're gripping the stone. Beautiful artifacts for your showcase, mantle, or hearth. A couple of the nicest ones you'll find on eBay. Free shipping. USA only. Thanks!
