Qing Republic 10" Chinese Cloisonne Jardiniere Planter ~Precious Objects ~Lotus - $378 - (Deerfield, VA)
This auction is for a lovely antique Chinese cloisonne jardiniere or planter that sits on four decorated gilded feet. The planter has six sides and is decorated all around. The longer sides have precious objects such as vases with plants, bowls of fruit and scrolls. The other sides are a traditional Chinese lotus motif. There is a border around the top of flowers and stylized vines. The bronze on the planter is gilded and bright. The inside and bottom of the planter are finished in blue enamel. The planter is very colorful with blue, gold, green, red, yellow, rose, white, black and orange enamel. I believe the jard is late Qing (1890 - 1911) or early Republic period (1912 - 1949). I purchased the planter many years ago at a fine Asian antique store in San Francisco. It remains in excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. The inside of the planter does not have dirt or water stains. There may be minor pitting as common with older cloisonne. There blue enamel has a few rough spots as common with old cloisonné. The bronze has very little tarnish and is very lovely. A vintage Chinese wood scroll stand is included in the auction but not original to the planter. This stand matches stands in the designs of the precious objects on the cloisonne planter. The stand is perfect to display the planter. The stand has bits of an old label on the bottom that I have not tried to remove. The stand is in excellent vintage condition with minimal surface scratches and paint loss.
