Here is a beautiful traditional turtle shell medicine bag handmade by my dear friend Paul St. John a member of the Mohawk Tribe. Paul lives in Northern Maine near his mother's lands of the Micmac (Mi’kmaq) and Maliseet people. There photo is of Paul, that I took at the Pleasant Point Reservation( Passamaquoddy Tribe)Pow Wow, in Perry Maine. Paul is a gifted traditional artist of native baskets, beadwork and more. *This is the shell of a Red Eared Slider, it is not an endangered or threatened species.* This bag is made of a carapace, or upper turtle shell 4" long and 3 3/4" wide. It has been decorated with seed beads of blues, red and porcupine quills.Total length with the beads is 5 3/4" Soft deerskin is made into a pouch which fits neatly on the shell. The necklace is 18" and has 2 glass blue beads. The neck cord can be tied to your desired length.A very nice personal sized turtle medicine bag to hold your herbs and special items.
