1880's Calligraphy Bird Pen & Ink Folk Art Drawing Bertha's Autograph Album WOW - $125 - (Somerville, MA)

A wonderful antique autograph album belonging to Bertha A. Martin from WIlliamstown, Vermont filled with lovely sentiments from family and friends. The antique album also contains several colorful die-cuts of flowers, and a beautiful calligraphy bird with a tiny butterfly, drawn with pen and ink. This type of drawing a favorite subject during this time period, the late 19th century. The most special feature in the album is a composition written by Bertha's Grandma, Malinda Hillery on Sept. 1850. It was copied into the album by Bertha's mother, S I Martin, on May 18th 1884. The composition is entitled ' Moral Greatness' and speaks to the integrity and character of man. There are a little over 40 different names of family and friends that signed Berta's album some of them include; Martin, Hillery, Ditty, Bailey, Erskine, Hathaway, Colby, Flint, Bruce, Whitney, Williams, and Pratt. The majority of entries are from folks that resided in Vermont, most in the town of Williamstown, other towns include Barre, South Barre, Pane, Montpelier, Stowe, Warren, Washington, Waterbury . There a few entries from New Hampshire; East Corinth, New York; Canton and Wisconsin; Whitewater. There are 44 pages, of which 35 are filled with autographs, and best wishes, 9 are blank. The overall condition of the antique album is very good, although the spine has wear and one page is loose. The albums pages are beige in tone and measures 4 1/4" X 6 3/4". welcome all questions, as well as requests for more photographs, and happily combine shipping.
