1909 Cattle & Sheep Oil Painting In Fabulous Frame What a great decorative object! Indiana artist Edgar Schalk painted this impressive view of cows and sheep at a stream in 1909. In the back we can see two men with a hat who is following them, driving them along. The canvas is in its original ornate frame, which has a panel of glass up front, about 3" away from the painting surface. The glass has protected the painting from dirt, abrasions and smoke, and the painting looks today much as it did in 1909. It's in original, perfect condition. The heavy frame needed some touch-up, but all of the major ornamentation has survived. There are a few small areas of missing minor ornament along the outer edge on the bottom, but it generally can not be seen. We replaced the old glass with new non-reflective museum glass, and the transformation is stunning. From most angles, it's like there is no glass at all. The painting size is 22"x18", and the frame is 31"x27"x3".
