Ziricote Classical Size Acoustic Guitar Back and Sides Set - ZR004 - $225 - (Statesville, NC)
ZIRICOTE (Cordia dedecandra) back and sides set. You are bidding on a Premium Quality set of Ziricote Tonewood. This set is large enough to make a CLASSICAL SIZE guitar. The back plates are large enough for a DREADNAUGHT guitar. The side plates can be used to make a Dreadnaught guitar in the hands of an experience luthier. Some filling along one edge of the side plates may require some epoxy filling. Ziricote is an excellent tonewood similar in sound to Rosewood. It's appearance is spectacular. Has a lot of "landscaping" and "spider webbing" in the grain. On quartersawn surfaces the grain exhibits "ray flecking" similar to maple. BOTH THE BACK AND SIDE PLATES EXHIBIT EXCELLENT FLAKING. I purchased this wood in the late 1990's and it was resawn into sets in 2009. The back and side plates are well matched for color and grain. Both the back and side plates are quartersawn. Ziricote of this quality is very hard to source. This set will make a wonderful guitar in the hands of the right luthier. Wood Measurements Back Plates - 8 1/4 to 6 1/2" X 21" X .125" - Quartersawn to Rift Cut Side Plates - 5 1/8 - 4 1/2 " X 31" X .138" - Quartersawn This set was not wetted before photographing. Photographed with a 60D Canon with professional lighting. Ziricote can be brittle and should be handled with care. Many builders flood the surface of the plates with cyanoacrylate glue to fill in any small service checks that might be present. Takes a wonderful deep finish.
