My father was stationed in Japan in 1946 immediately after World War II - we lived in a Japanese house, and when we returned to the U.S. we purchased and brought some of the furniture with us. These Tansu chests have never been refinished or restored in any way, so they are authentic with normal signs of wear. Each chest has a separate lacquered stand which raises it from the floor.
