Great Britain collection with stampless, catalog value over £17,500; 60 images - $760 - (Urbana, IL)
Another philatelic gem from Member of APS and ARA, so buy with confidence! A used collection (a few mint/unused sprinkled throughout) of Great Britain on homemade pages, from early stampless covers to the 1940s, including an attractive 3+ margin penny black and strong in the surface printed issues and their plate numbers. This collection was written up by the original owner using Stanley Gibbons catalog numbers. Based upon other items from this collector's collection, I believe the vast majority of the collection was put together prior to 1944. Most 19th century GB that one usually encounters are hammered with killer/obliterator cancels. The nice thing about this collection is that the stamps seem to have been chosen either for light cancels or crisp clearly identifiable numeric cancels. Better than average, in my opinion. There are 60 images below. Please allow time for them all to load. I have spot checked a number of the items and the owner's identification appears to be accurate. Since I did not wish to remove and remount stamps, in the cases where a stamp could be different based upon watermark, I listed and valued the stamp as the less valuable of the options, so there may be some finds to be had. Additionally, the 1911-12 issues (SG #321-350) are time consuming enough to identify that I did not include them in the value at all, despite there being 2 pages of them. I also did not include anything for the stampless covers or the postal stationery, or the QV 2/6 and 5/-, both of which appear to be extremely faulty. I did not include any of the 20th century material that catalogued under £5 in the valuation. Excepting the above, the total 2011 Stanley Gibbons catalog value (2011 is the most current catalog I have) is £17,784. Using the XE exchange calculator, that equates to US$22,113 or A$29,119.
