CLARABELL BANNER OF HOWDY DOODY FAME 16 ' CANVAS 50s APPEARANCE AT ELLIS STORE - $1,199 - (Hightstown, NJ)

CLARABELL BANNER OF HOWDY DOODY FAME 16 FOOT CANVAS 50s APPEARANCE AT ELLIS STORE. When the Howdy Doody show was in it's heyday of the 1950's the characters would go to stores or supermarkets to do a meet and greet. In this case it was Ellis department store in West Virginia. Besides Howdy and Buffalo Bob Clarabell was the most popular character on the show. The store now long closed had their own signage department where all sorts of unique signs, banners and posters were constructed for sales, appearances, advertising etc. They hand painted this heavy canvas banner to welcome Clarabell. It was large enough to bring the crowds in. This banner is 2 inches shy of 16 feet long and is 37 inches wide. These appearances helped to continue to popularize the show. This banner is in great condition. I presume that it was hung in the store somewhere. No rips or tears, a little fraying on the edges. There are tack holes around the edges. The paint and the graphics are still colorful. It has been stored rolled up and banded for many years. This may very well be a one of a kind banner from the iconic Howdy Doody show.
