Victorian Antique Sterling British Hallmarked Vinaigrette Fragrance Box - $75 - (Frankfort, IL)

This lovely little sterling snuff box or vinaigrette was an estate sale purchase. It is British sterling and hallmarked accordingly. It is from the late 19th century. The silversmith is marked "FC". It is being sold as is. There is no loop on this, and if you wish to wear it in locket fashion, a jeweler could add one. Usually that entails a laser solder to be on safe side. Dimensions are 1 1/4" x 3/4" and 5/8" thick. The asp works fine. The box has a book style to it. Very pretty etching and raised repousee border on front. Interior is vermeil gold wash with filigree cover to fragrance compartment. There is a sponge in the scent compartment. Condition- overall lovely condition. However, the small engraveable center plaque on front has obviously been scratched to cover previous initials. ALSO, the interior hinge that is supposed to attach filigree cover to interior is broken and pin is missing. It stays in fine, but do note that. The back of box has a small dent on one of corners.
