Hide covered trunk original label James Barber Providence RI iron hardware AAFA - $956 - (Tenants Harbor, ME)

WE CAN COMBINE SHIPPING ON MULTIPLE ITEMS IF THEY CLOSE WITHIN TWO DAYS OF EACH OTHER, AND CAN BE SENT IN ONE BOX. TERRIFIC EARLY AMERICAN DOME TOP HIDE BOUND TRUNKLATE 18TH / EARLY 19TH CENTURY DIMENSIONS About 11" x 12" x 24" DESCRIPTION Wonderful hide covered trunk, probably deer or cowhide, with some of the hair remaining. Original maker's label inside the lid reads "JAMES BARBER, / SADDLE, HARNESS, / TRUNK AND VALISE / MANUFACTURER, / No. 26 South Main street, / PROVIDENCE, R. I." I was not able to locate any information about this individual. But the style of the label and trunk is very consistent with a late eighteenth or early nineteenth century origin. Hand forged handles and lock mechanism are original. Original leather hinges under the hide covering. Hobnail and leather bands all around. Lined with blue and age-darkened formerly white wallpaper. CONDITION Overall very good. Parts of the inner edge of the trunk body to the left of the lock are missing (visible in the images). The lid does not close all the way probably due to shrinkage and drying of the old leather hinges. A FINE EXAMPLE OF AN EARLY AMERICAN DOME TOP CHEST. All items shipped USPS priority mail. For payment, we accept PayPal, or Visa and MC (through PayPal). We will ship within two business day following receipt of the funds. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: We will ship internationally via US priority mail and internet tracking. All items will be INSURED AND DECLARED AT FULL PURCHASE PRICE. Please do not ask us to insure or declare for less than the purchase price.
