Terence Steven "Steve" McQueen , born 3-24-30, was an American actor. Called "The King of Cool", his "anti-hero" persona, developed at the height of the counterculture of the 1960s. He is artistically shown here in his role as a maverick, taciturn detective in the very popular hit, “Bullitt” (1968), renowned for its famous chase sequence through San Francisco between McQueen's Ford Mustang and the killers’ black Dodge Charger. Frank Bullitt's car was a 1968 Ford Mustang 390 GT 2+2 Fastback. The bad guys drive a 1968 Dodge Charger 440 Magnum. The Charger is just barely faster than the Mustang, with a 13.6-second quarter-mile compared to the Mustang's 13.8-second. According to Peter Yates, Steve McQueen made a point to keep his head near the open car window during the famous chase scene so that audiences would be reassured that it was he, not a stunt man, who was driving, Steve McQueen was known for his rugged good looks and cool, tough guy persona. Steve died 11-7-80, age 50, in Juarez, Mexico from cancer associated with asbestos.
