Charles M. Russell 'Old West' Prints(5) /Brown & Bigelow Repros-N. Porter Ads - $25 - (Crowley, LA)
WOW! Talk about realistic...you feel as if you are there in the Ole West! Here are five Charles M. Russell(Old West) Brown & Bigelow reproductions, done by the full-color letterpress process. From our research it appears that N.(Nathan/Newton)Porter, a leather/saddle-making company in Phoenix, AZ had these done for what we assume is advertising. Also from our research, it seems as if Brown and Bigelow took the original oils of Russell and reproduced them using the full-color letterpress process. It appears that this all took place in the early to mid 1900s. If you use the magnifier, you can see the name(N.Porter)....then the title of the original oil painting...then the printer(Brown & Bigelow) across the bottom of each print. Most all the 'complete' size of the prints(end-of-paper to end-of-paper) is~16-3/4" x 11" and the prints themselves are ~14" x 9-1/2"(there may be 1 or 2 that are smaller). They are glossy and all contain C Russell(some have the cow skull and some have the year that the original oil was done).
