Great AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR Philadelphia Pennsylvania PA 1775 Old Newspaper (Note: additional images are located below the description) Shown is an original & historic old newspaper, offered to enhance your collectible interest: THE PENNSYLVANIA LEDGER, Philadelphia, Nov. 11, 1775 * American Revolutionary War at the beginning * Pennamite-Yankee War - Wyoming Valley * General George Washington bounty Most of the front page is taken up with a lengthy document concerning the Pennamite-Yankee War, an intermittent conflict between settlers from Connecticut, who claimed the land along the North Branch of the Susquehanna River in the present Wyoming Valley, and settlers from Pennsylvania, who claimed the same lands (see hyperlink for more). This report carries over to the bkpg. Page 2 has a fascinating letter from an officer of the British army stationed in Boston, in which he criticizes the British efforts in America. Bits include: "...even at that time irksome & disagreeable, but now is doubly so. The cause in which we are concerned is entirely obliterated...the people of the country have by various methods exasperated & enraged us, & to free ourselves from a situation so disagreeable & confined, there is not any thing we would not attempt. I confess, upon the grand basis of this business, we all unanimously acquit the Colonists & do every hour of the day pray Lord N___ to head us..." with more (see) Another item notes: "A great number of officers who are under orders to go out with the regiments destined for America, have desired leave to retire from the service." Further on is: "The plan proposed by government with respect to America is precisely this; the Kings forces are to take Rhode Island, & as soon as the capture of that island is effected, the friends of administration throughout the colonies are to be invited thither..." with more on a plan to end the war.
