1913-S $20 Gold Saint Gaudens PCGS MS64+ CAC Approved *RARE DATE, GEM* Important Details: PCGS Price Guide: $11,000PCGS Population: 13 in MS64+, likely inflated by resubmissions. 3 CAC approved.Price One Grade Higher: In MS65 this becomes a $35,000+ coin according to PCGS & NGC price guides and auction records.Original Mintage: 34,000 Analysis The 1913-S $20 Saint-Gaudens is the third most popular coin in the series and is relatively common in low grades. However, upon reaching higher uncirculated grades like this example, the coin becomes nearly impossible to find. The 1913-S is a classic condition rarity. The highest graded example is a PCGS MS66 (from the “Dallas Bank" collection) and there is only one specimen of that grade with pricing going into the $200k range. According to PCGS, fewer than 25 coins have been graded higher than this example in MS64+ CAC. This coin in MS64+ has only been seen at auction a few times in the last decade and went for $14,688 at the January 2013 FUN show. The coin sold in that auction WAS NOT CAC approved. This coin is an exceptional example of an MS64+ CAC Saint and carries the original luster and exceptionally strong details that a grade of this type requires. While small contact marks in the field can be typical in this grade, damage on the most important high points is non-existent which is very rare for this coin and merits its exceptional grade. Only a few fewer contact marks would give this coin a solid MS 65 grade. The PCGS population for the 1913-S Double Eagle in MS64+ is 13 with just 24 finer, but fewer than 5 examples have been approved by CAC. I believe that the population figures are well inflated by resubmissions, plus a number of the coins graded as such might not be regarded as MS64+ or MS65 if they were re-graded today. In summary, this is an excellent example to add to any Saint-Gaudens collection. The next grade higher (MS65) starts at around $35,000. A recent example of an MS64+ was sold for $14,688 and di
