Antique Brass (?) Box, Round, "Hannibal Hamlin" Abraham Lincoln Vice President - $350 - (West Paris, ME)

Small, heavy brass box (or perhaps only partly brass?) covered dish with the name "Hannibal Hamlin" engraved on the cover. The weight is primarily from the base; item is in good condition and is obviously very old. I have no information regarding provenance, unfortunately. I bought this a Maine auction in the 1990's when I was working on a collection of Paris Hill, Maine historical items. My interests and focus have changed, and I'm ready to part with some of the things I collected. I think it's a really neat item. If genuine, and I don't see any reason to think otherwise, it looks like something that Hamlin might have made as a boy or young man. Perhaps experts on Hamlin would know if his biography mentions anything about working with metals. Hamlin was vice-president under Lincoln and had connections to Paris and to Bangor, Maine (among other places). Thanks for looking & maybe bidding.
