Afg-28: Colorful Blue Afghanite, Phlogopite, & Calcite, Fluorescent Minerals - $100 - (Alto, NM)
This spectacular specimen is originally from Badakhshan, the extreme northeast province of Afghanistan. It has blue Afghanite crystals (a complex alumino-silicate mineral) and brown phlogopite crystals in a matrix of white & grey calcite. See darkroom photos #2 & 8, and daylight photos #11 & 12. Under short wave lamp the phlogopite crystals glow yellow & the calcite red (photos #4 & 10). Under long wave lamp the Afghanite & phlogopite both glow orange (photos #3 & 9). Photos #1 & 7 were taken with both LW & SW lamps on; and the specimen displays almost 100% coverage in three colors! The phlogopite also glows orange and the calcite red, in mid wave (photo #5). Photo #6 was taken with both MW & LW lamps on, again displaying full coverage of color on the specimen.
