1811 Spanish Colonial Mission Bell. Bronze with gorgeous patina. No cracks or dents, rings with a beautiful tone. Approximately 8.25 inches high and 5.25 inches wide. Throughout the Spanish Colonies in America these bells were found decorating missions, churches and houses. They were cast from hand shaped molds by bronze artisans and then hand tooled, often with geometric or flower patterns. This bell was probably displayed and used outside of a home. 1811 is not the year made, it represents the year Mexico gained its independence from Spain. This bell was most likely made between 1820-1880, when bronze work was at its height.
