Pair of Antique Silver Japanese Taisho Period Vases Signed by Emperor of Japan - $3,800 - (St. Simons Island, GA)

Pair of Antique Silver Japanese Vases from Taisho Period Signed by Emperor of Japan These vases were a gift from Emperor Taisho, brought back from Japan in 1921 by a teacher at the University of Tokyo following his assignment there. They stand about 10 3/4” and weigh just over 32 oz. each. They are in overall fair to good condition although they have several dings and dents. In my opinion, the pictures taken of these seem to exaggerate them, and are not as noticeable when these vases are displayed. This could be an "eye of the beholder" type of thing but they are beautiful vases. I talked to James Callahan, Asian Art Expert of The Antiques Roadshow, about them after sending him pictures and measurements. He said, judging on their weight and height dimensions, they were made of a higher grade silver of that period, and were not sterling. When I explained their origin he said it was fairly common that gifts of this kind were given in this manner from the Emperor. What I thought was brass inlay on the birds he said was actually gold.
