Curved & Beveled Oval Glass French 8 Day Mantle Clock with Samuel Marti Medaille D'Or Paris 1900 movement. Circa 1903 - 1907. This high quality French clock is in a solid brass case that is cased to four sides with curved & beveled crystal glass. there are doors to the front and the rear. The front for winding & adjusting the hands and the rear for access to the gong & pendulum which can be observed swinging to & fro. The clock has a 3 & 3/4" slightly convex enamel dial that has delicate French script hour chapters and single dot markers for the minutes and has Arabic numerals marking the 15, 30 & 45 minute divisions on the outer part of the face. The dial has a machine turned gilt bezel and blued "Pike & Spear" steel hands, winding arbour below the center for time on the right hand side with the gong strike arbour on the left. This is a spring driven, brass, eight day substantial drum movement and strikes the hour and half hour on a rear mounted, blued steel coiled gong. It has rack striking brocot suspension that can be adjusted from the front dial. Automatic temperature compensation is achieved by the mercury filled glass pendulum. 10 1/2" high, 7" wide & 5 1/2" deep.
