This is a beautiful sassafras mantle. It has a natural taupe brown coloring with natural black streaks. Sassafras is a hardwood tree that grows from Maine to Texas to Michigan. Roots are used for Sassafras tea...leaves are ground for file (seasoning), wood can be used for firewood or fence posts and it makes a beautiful unique fireplace mantle.  Compliment your fireplace with an authentic handcrafted Sassafras log mantle. Top surface, bottom and back have been planed. Great character and natural coloring. Sealed with several coats of polyurethane.  60" long x 7 1/2" depth x 6" height (dimensions vary slightly due to the live edge). Weighs 75 pounds without packing.
