Up for auction is a very rare Early American, Pressed Glass, Tilting Pitcher. This is the second known example of this item. The other one is located in the Corning Museum of Glass. Maker: Most likely Belmont Glass Works, William Zimmer Made sometime between: 1883-1890 Dimensions are roughly: Overall H: 28.7 cm, W: 20.1 cm, D: 26 cm The basic design for this set was patented by William Zimmer of Bellaire, Ohio on March 25, 1884, No. 295,849. There is no indication which firm made the set, but Zimmer was appointed factory manager of the Belmont Glass Works in 1882. Water sets were extremely popular in silver, silver plate, ceramics and glass in the 1880s and 1890s.
