VICTORIAN PRAYER BOOK ENGLAND WILLIAM COMYNS STERLING SILVER COVER CHERUBS - $99 - (Danbury, CT)

This tiny prayer book measures 2 inches by 1 3/4 inches and is one half of one inch thick. Published in London by EYRE AND SPOTTISWOODE it is the BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER according to the use of The Church of England. The book which has 702 gilt edged pages has a sterling silver cover featuring cherubs and there are hallmarks which are difficult to read, but we believe the cover is by the famous Victorian silversmith.William Comyns. The lady who carried this prayer book probably dropped it one day while it was raining (as is so often the case in London) and the red leather cover left stains on several pages. We have attempted to show the worst of the damage in our photos. A rare and delightful antique despite the damage.
