From an estate sale years ago, this "AS WE SEE 'EM" VOLUME OF CARTOONS AND CARICATURES OF KANSAS CITYANS" is profoundly interesting and humorous! There are 412 individual pages covering Mayor Neff, city leaders, merchants, lawyers, physicians, business leaders railroaders etc., with many businesses, including "gold mining". All are men. The caricatures/cartoons are not offensive, but definitely humorous. An inside cover indicates the book originally belonged to G. Clinton Adams of Board of Trade Building. A penciled note in book reads "Think this book published about 1904". The book was published by H.B. Thomson from the press of Lechtman Printing Co. Photographs, from which which pen and ink sketches were made, were furnished by D.P. Thomson. Engravings were by Teachenor-Barthberger Engraving. There is an opening 16 pages EXORDIUM including 15 caricatures followed by pages of caricatures. These are followed by an INDEX TO SUBJECTS containing the names of subjects and applying page numbers. The final page 412 pays a fine tribute, not a caricature, to Union Pacific Railroad - The Overland Route. The book binding itself is not in good condition (see photos), but the caricature pages are in overall good condition....some yellowing and light wear on edges. Book is intact.
