1989 Original GUMBY Coloring Book Illustration LOT by Roy Wilson & Art Clokey Product Description "SATURDAY'S TOYS Presents..." a one-of-a-kind collection of vintage drawings and support documents from the creation of an official "Gumby" coloring book. Recently salvaged from a box of the illustrator's personal career archives. Created for "Gumby Coloring Book of Numbers", as published by Checkerboard Press / Macmillan, Inc. Copyright 1989 by Prema Toy Company (founded and owned by Gumby creator, Art Clokey). Roy Wilson's personal copy of the completed coloring book will be included with this offering. Artwork was created in 1988 for publication in 1989 under contract to the book's illustrator, Roy Wilson. Included with Art Clokey's approved pencil design and autograph signature are the following illustrations: Roy Wilson's original rough pencil sketches (representing 47 pages of the book; drawn with two pages per layout sheet; only missing the final page as Gumby waves goodbye); as drawn in graphite and blue pencil; including Art Clokey's original character correction line drawings (in black ink; initialed A.C. below each correction) Photocopy of Roy Wilson's concepts for the title page; with a variety of early efforts; eventually settling on the art shown on the finished coloring book. In particular, Wilson's proposed book cover (8.5" x 11") was faxed to Art Clokey for review. As corrections were needed on the drawing, Clokey placed his own original pencil drawing on a 5.25" x 8" section of transparent animation paper; then taping the approved correction to the fax before returning to Roy Wilson for completion. In addition to Clokey's original drawing, he also provided his own notation and signature in ballpoint pen: "Penciled corrections - Art Clokey." In addition, Clokey's personal stamp of approval (light teal ink) authorizes his signature on the page on behalf of Prema Toy Company.
