RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN WWI - REVOLUTION / COUNTER REVOLUTIONARY UNIT FLAG - $2,450 - (Galena, IL)

Here is a rather unique flag with its verbiage written in the script of the Lithuanian Empire, which indicates to me that it was representative of an older command in the White Russian army during the White Counter-Revolution. It is indicative of the two headed royal eagles but of ducks, and the translation of a Palvs Damvs/Palus Damus is "We Live in the Swamp" or the "Swamp is our Home"/ "Swamp Home/Live". Given the geological features of eastern Europe, the Great Priepet Marsh has always been the home to not only a wide variety of wildlife, but has always been a haven to outcasts and guerrilla factions, at least until the swamps were drained after the revolution. The area is now home to Chernobyl and is largely deserted, but still represents a little documented struggle for survival and power in the early formative years of the Soviet Union in the 20th Century. There is dried blood on the flag and appears to be the aftermath of wiping off a blooded sword. Obviously the victor. What is highly unusual is the script of an expired Lithuanian Empire, which would tend to place it to WWI, but the ducks replacing eagles and without any insignia of a Christian Cross tends to place it towards the end of the war of shortly thereafter. The weave of the fabric dates it to the turn of the century and after, understanding eastern Europe was a rather backward place at the time. NOTE: I do not accept returns due to the fiduciary failure of this site, however, I have an very good rating for a reason and if something is wrong I am very easy to talk to. I ship everything well packed and insured for both our protection. Thank you for your interest.
