Ultra Rare 18th Century 3 Key Baroque Era Strong Box Lock with Keys (1600-1750 Baroque Period)Lock is from approximately 1750 with three Museum grade skeleton keys. This lock was part of a very large vertical strong box. The lock measures approximately 26.5" long x 12" wide and has a depth from the front plate to the back of the lock of 3" A combined 3 keyed lock. The first and third lock openings have complex rectangular Museum grade bit keys. #1 Top Key: is a hollow barrel, maze design bit. From the top of the hollow barrel it is 2 1/8" long, (top to bottom) The bit itself is 1 7/8" long, 1.5" high, and 1" wide. The key is 6.5" in total length, from tip to bow. #2 Middle Key: from tip to bow is 6" in total length. Hollow barrel, with a church key design bit. Bit measures approx. 1.25" long x 1.25" high and 1/8" wide. #3 Bottom Key: is a reversed locking mechanism with a maze style double hollow barrel complex bit. Bit measures 1 7/8" long, 1.5" high, and 1" wide. Key from tip to bow is 6.5" long. The back of the lock features a decorated back plate with a punched out Baroque design. This back plate has some slight bowing. Three keys are required to open this lock. During this time period the keys were hidden around the house to prevent theft. Lock was originally between a metal door frame of the strong box. The interior mechanism would not have been exposed. There is a fracture in the metal on the lower right hand side. 8 3/8" from left hand side crack measures where an original bolt has broken through the facia - 2.5" from the edge. On the left hand side, both top and bottom there is damage where the lock was attached to the original door frame. It appears the lock was pried from the frame and this is seen in the area of 1 1/8" - 1 5/8" wide, approx. .5" wide and 1.5" from the top.
