c late 18th century, c 1784, SUMATRA - Indonesia large folding plates from Marsden, History of Sumatra, originally published 1784, this image looks as if it came out of a large format book, publication date may be somewhat later. (antique print c late 18th century) SUMATRA HOUSE, large antique print shows tropical house in clearing. House is built on stilts, also shows a few figures and tropical foliage, measures about 12.5x10.25" in vertical format, image area somewhat smaller, nice margins, full plate mark, looks like etching/aquatint to me. Has two folds where was folded into book, two marginal tear repaired, on heavyweight paper, original issue, not a facsimile or reprint. Blank on back. This is a final sale.
