Very nice Papua, New Guinea story board that retains the rich white, black ash & orange ocher colors. It's wood & carved in high relief. It depicts wildlife- crocodile, birds, fish, spider as well as trees, grasses and ocean waves. There is a woven reed loop so it can be hung. It measures 23" long x 8 1/4" tall x 2 1/4" high. It weighs about 3 1/4 lbs. Excellent condition & still have the rich colors from the white paint, black ash & orange ocher, which means it's pretty much in its original condition. This story board is from the Kambot Tribe of Papua New Guinea. It is a tradition of the Kambot Tribe in the lower Sepik region to carve a wooden board which tells a story. Storyboard have different themes- village life, adventures, wild animals & spirits. They are displayed in men's houses as decorations. The storyboard is finished with wax from the milk of the Kapiak Tree & the details are highlighted by white lime, black ash & ocher.
