I am selling my Chesapeak 16 LT hand-built wooden kayak with the matching carved paddle and all of the paperwork (manual, blue prints, catalogs, advertisements, and plans). I received this kayak from an estate - the individual that built the kayak spent a great deal of time and care building a beautiful kayak that features the classic Chesapeake hard-chine hull that is easy to lean and turn that allows you to handle the seas and surfs confidently. The Chesapeak 16 LT kit comes with pre-cut parts, hatches and bulkheads, full deck rigging, adjustable footbraces, epoxy kit, fiberglass for hull (inside and out) and deck, tractor seat, and backband which then requires a great deal of time and care to assemble properly and finish beautifully. This kayak is an exquisite example of these wonderful kits built by a very talented craftsman. The 16 Light Touring (LT) measures 15' 6.5" with a beam of 22.5" and weighs 42 lbs. Chesapeake kayaks are expedition touring boats that excel in rough water and steep seas. With their high-volume bows, the Chesapeake's cruise over big waves. Their highly cambered foredecks shed water quickly and provide plenty of foot room for comfortable cockpits. The skeg-like stern design assures train-like tracking and minimal weathercocking, even in fierce crosswinds. The Chesapeake's hard-chine hull is strongly influenced by West Greenland design. The long waterline and substantial rocker assure plenty of speed---you'll leave the plastic boats behind---while the high-volume hulls swallow up expedition size loads.
