During the early Permian rainfall meant water and mud, and mud meant elongated claw marks. Swamps were slippery environments to which the lizards of the dim past adapted superbly. Just like in the present, earthworms liked moist aerated soil but not waterlogged ground. Slabs are almost 1/2 inch thick and very solid.
