Mandolin Orchestras of North America, Year 2000, pub. by Plucked String, Inc. - $10 - (Yarmouth, ME)

MANDOLIN ORCHESTRAS OF NORTH AMERICA, published June, 2000, originally published as Part II of the June, 2000 issue of Mandolin Quarterly Magazine. The foreward by Norman Levine traces the origins, growth and subsequent struggles of mandolin orchestras, up to the revival of interest in mandolin commencing in the 1980's. Originally envisioned as a small effort to help publicize the existence of mandolin orchestras, the staff of Mandolin Quarterly anticipated perhaps 6 to 8 submissions. The response was in fact overwhelming, which drove a change of thinking; "the folio became a book". Each orchestra submitted its own data, often with photographs. Max McCullough penned a five page scholarly history of "The Mandolin is Twentieth - Century America (An Instrument in Search of an Identity)", and the result was a 51 page snapshot of mandolin orchestras circa 2000 in the USA and Canada. See the attached table of contents for a full listing of participants. Shipping via Media Mail in USA, cost as indicated, international buyers will need to pay additional postage when ascertained.
