Antique 1920's Vega "Professional" Model Tenor Banjo VERY Nice - $1,049 - (Centralia, WA)
Note: The original picture of the peg head was terrible; it looked like there was bad wear around one of the pegs. It was the lighting. I thought I had replaced it before listing this item. It has been replaced with the correct picture. This is a beautiful old Vega Tenor Banjo. This is the "Professional" model and is in excellent vintage condition. It shows normal play wear, but not a lot. There are a few scratches on the back, some wear in the finish on the back of the neck. There is a little fret board wear up to the 11th. fret (but very little fret wear), and normal wear on the bottom of the back (knee rest), and the top of the arm rest. The chrome is in excellent condition, as is the tortoise celluloid binding on the back. All is original except the head, and the modern Grover bridge (both were replaced in the 90's-an original period Bacon bridge is included). It has very nice ornamentation with abalone and mother of pearl inlays. The neck appears to be maple, and the back is constructed with quilted maple. Overall the construction is very nice. The closed back is 13 1/2" in diameter, and the head 11". The scale is about 23" and there are 19 frets. The tuners are Planet units with ivory, or ivroid buttons. The body depth is 3 1/8" and the neck is 1 1/8" at the nut. It has a beautiful Grover Presto tailpiece. The tone and volume are excellent. Present is the original fitted hard case made by the C&S Company (the handle appears to have been replaced). For the collector, it even has an original 1921 "Guckert's" training manual. This is a professional instrument and will be loved by any musician or collector. Payment should be made within 3 days of the end of the auction.
