29" Original Label 1858 No. 9 Greiner Papier-Mache Doll - $2,500 - (Winona, TX)
Estate item D 21: This a very large papier mache doll head measuring 8 inches tall from the bottom of the chest plate to the top of the head. It is 7.5 inches wide shoulder to shoulder. The doll measures 29 inches from top of head to bottom of old vintage shoes. He hands are leather and very frail with the leather about 85% of the arm. Her head is in wonderful condition with only a hairline place on both sides of the front chest plate. She has her original label on the back of the chest plate. It says: Greiner's Patent Doll Heads No.9 Pat. Mar. 30, '58 Ext. 72That means these dolls began production in 1858 and made up through 1872. Her body is in very good condition made of a very strong sturdy fabric and original. Clothes more than likely added years later due to very much like an old flour sack dress print of fabric and the stitching of the dress making is a mixture of treadle machine and hand stitching. This doll comes from a private museum and was very well cared for.
