Pioneer Coaster Wooden Toy Wagon - $515 - (Chapel Hill, TN)

A beautiful, warm collectible. Great for display, by itself or as vehicle displaying other items: antiques, Christmas presents, etc. The wagon measures 33” x 15 x 26 (to top of handle). Pioneer was one of many brand names of popular toys, along with wheels, wheelchairs and other items manufactured by the Gendron Wheel Company of Toledo, Ohio. According to Wikipedia and related sources, the Gendron Wheel Company was founded in 1872 by Peter Gendron, a French Canadian from Quebec, who emigrated to Toledo in 1865 (changing has name from Pierre to Peter). Using his experience in his father's wheel shop, Pierre/Peter developed his passion for creating better wheels, and would seem to have patented the prototype of wire-spoked wheels, used today in cycles, wheelchairs, and other vehicles and toys of various sorts. (But curiously, not in the Pioneer Coaster, which has solid wheels.)Gendron died in 1910, but his company lived on, changing ownership and locations, remaining, however, in Ohio, where it is today. The company was a major producer of pedal cars, tricycles and toy wagons, such as the Pioneer Coaster, into the 1960s. Gendron has since dropped toy production, but has expanded its medical services production from wheelchairs to wheeled beds, and other primarily wheeled devices for hospitals. There is some speculation that they might reboot the classic pedal car someday.A beautiful antique toy wagon with a colorful history. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gendron,_Inc.(http://gendroninc.com/about-us/)
