Precision Spin Top/ Stainless " Blue Star" Top - $100 - (Alamosa, CO)
I made this top from 420 stainless,7075 aluminum and 1/4" translucent blue plexiglass rods. The body has 5 holes drilled and reamed around the circumference, with the plexiglass rods pressed into them. Because of the angle cut on both sides of the top, the rods are only partially exposed, thereby producing the star shape. I drilled 2 holes 90 degrees apart through the 7075 aluminum stem and pressed plexiglass rods into them also. The stem is faceted on a taper, and a Si3N4 ceramic ball contact point is used. This top takes longer to stabilize than most of my other tops and it does have a slight flutter for the last 2 or 3 minutes of a spin. I only timed one spin, and it was 10.20 on a concave mirror. Spin times will vary from person to person. The diameter of this top is 1.200", it is 1 1/2" tall and it weighs 31 grams. The top in the photos is the actual item you will receive. A black velvet carry bag is included.
