Fred Harvey Era Native American Navajo Small Sterling Silver Spoon ~Old Hallmark - $135 - (Deerfield, VA)
This auction is for a small, old Fred Harvey Era hallmarked sterling spoon with a turquoise on the handle. The Native American spoon is probably Navajo and is marked "sterling" with a wonderful, old hallmark of a Thunderbird. I have not been able to identify the hallmark but with more research, it could probably be identified. The spoon is small at under 4" and could have been used for a baby. There is a lovely turquoise on the top of the handle and three engraved lines at the bottom of the handle. This is a very special spoon made with pride for a treasured baby. Fred Harvey was an early entrepreneur in the southwest who made Native American arts & crafts available to visitors and residents. The period dates from 1900 - 1955. My parents probably acquired the spoon by the 1930s. The little spoon is in very good vintage condition with expected wear. There are surface scratches. The turquoise is undamage and secure in the setting. The handle is not bent.
