Antique French Ormolu Palais Royal Opaline Ruffle Basket - $165 - (Shady Cove, OR)
A delicate antique French ormolu wire basket decorated with pretty little leaves and butterfly with a beautiful opaline ruffle basket with emerald glass edges insert. The white opaline center exhibits a lot of orange and red colors but all pictures were taken with a flash so it's hard to see it.The glass measures about 7" across and the whole of it is about 9 1/2" high. The old French wire basket is very pretty indeed but delicate and two of the wire feet were made in such a way that the metal was just twisted and then open feet formed to hold the glass; somewhat primitive. And there does show age to the metal, but I could not see that anything was broken or missing.The glass is lovely and I could not find any issues with it besides very minimal wear if examined with a loop. The underneath of the base of the frame does not fit the opaline as it should but it clips in and holds fine and displays nicely enough.French in origin, circa mid-1800s.
