1725 Folio 150 Engravings - Arms Of Knights Of Order Of The Bath by J. Sympson - $750 - (Richmond, KY)
Scarce Folio - The Coat Of Arms Of the Knights Of Bath. Engraved by J. Sympson 1725. Folio, titles "Les Armes des Chevalier de l'Ordre du Bain Creez le 17me jour de Juin 1725". Based on my research these engravings copied from stall plates located at Westminster Abbey. Some printed in reverse. Text in French, hand written list of the Knights in English pasted to inside first page; of the first 38 pages depicted that are depicted positive legible sides. Remaining engravings are in reverse and positive other Coat of Arms on each page. (See antiquities reference image description) — back marbled board is loose as well as bottom portion of spine. Is complete with all 150 engraving plates. In 1725 King George l established the chivalric order; these nobles represent the first members inducted into the new order of Bath. Measures approx. 14" x 10". Also see image of old laid paper water mark. Probably of no significance but a grouping of old dried flowers between couple of pages.
