That is to say, when the third valve is pressed, the pitch of the horn is raised a whole step instead of being lowered by a step- and-a-half (minor third) as is the case on most three-valve instruments. If you've read this far you probably know that horns with ascending third valve system have their origins in France in the 19th century and are still used in France today, although they are not as common as they once were. The horn is in superb, original condition, never seriously damaged. Our shop removed a few small dents and dings, now all but invisible. The original bright silver plating is worn no more than about 2%. The valve pistons show very little wear and are tight and fast, with good compression. With very good original case (beautiful orange plush interior!), clean and odor-free. It's a rare and superb example from the best of French workshops, clean and ready to play!
