Vintage Wurlitzer lyric cornet serial #9112 - $440 - (Nixa, MO)
This is one of the most unique older cornets I have ever seen. By changing the tuning slide configuration (see pics), the cornet plays in the key of Bflat, C, or F (never was a great tranposer). I received this horn from my grandfather in the late 60's and believe it to be an early 1900's horn. He gave it to me because I was an up and budding gradeschool player, but of course I did not appreciate the horn because I wanted something new and shiny. The horn sat in my closet until my college years when i realized what unique features it had and had it reconditioned. About that time I coupled it with a bach 7c cornet mouthpiece and discovered a striking improvement in tone over the old wurlitzer mouthpieces. Since that time I have played it intermittently but maintained its condition in a clean and playable state ever since. It shows its age with areas of the silver plate worn down to brass but overall it is in great condition for the years. Slides all move easily, valves are fast and quiet. only real flaw is a broken solder joint on the C slide and a case that shows its age much worse than the cornet.
