Mary Sewell Cooper’s abstract art begins with wet charcoal drawings on paper, made while listening to music. These are laminated on stretched canvas, sometimes over underlying texture. Acrylic washes and lines integrate with the charcoal drawings, so that symbolic images appears to emerge from the canvas directly out of the Universal Unconscious. She also has a series of abstract expressionist paintings representing universal images from world cultures, springing from her background as an Anthropologist. She is a member of InnerIdeaArtists.com, a group of abstract artists from Southern Colorado and Seattle who follow Kandinsky’s prescription of “truth over beauty”, creating art from the inside out.
