Old Hickory Rustic Modern or American Provincial Original Rare Two-Drawer Desk ~ Chair is Sold Old Hickory has produced handmade fine rustic log furniture since 1890 for the bedroom, living and dining rooms. Old-fashioned American made quality. The 'American Provincial' design was introduced by Old Hickory in 1939 and was also referred to as 'Rustic Modern.' Very rare and hard to find desk in the American Provincial line. See below a quip from a 1935 Old Hickory catalog - "The details of a century-gone craftsmanship, the homely old materials, rope, leather, pine, square-headed nails, have all been faithfully used…There is, in these new patterns, relief from the jangle of cities and the standardized forms of today so wearisome to nerves and eyes. They carry you back to wind-swept prairies, deep primeval forests, and last and best of all, the men and women who faced this wilderness, axe in hand, with which to new a home." This desk is in wonderful condition. The chair in the photos has been sold. Part of a large set we purchased that was handed down, it stood barely used in a cabin setting.
