Large Ancient Sassanian Gold Ring with Zebu Bull Cornelian Intaglio - $1,260 - (Auburn, CA)

Sassanian Culture 4th-6th century AD Ring Size = 10 USA 20 mm Inside Diameter 13 grams This large masculine ring is made of high carat yellow gold with a large oval shaped bezel that holds a red cornelian intaglio. The intaglio depicts a virile Zebu bull in an active pose with muscular body, horns, Brahman hump and an upturned tail. There is some sort of six pronged inscription/symbol floating above the back of the beefy animal. The intaglio itself is nearly 7/8 inches (20 mm) across by 5/8 inches (15 mm) high. The hollow shank ring is covered in an intricately carved entwined floral design and the intaglio is flanked by two small gold beads. It is super comfortable to wear. It is in Excellent Condition with some minor wear and dings and ancient dirt spots. I bought this very impressive ancient ring from a London based antiquities dealer in 2005.
