The purpose of this bulletin is to compare the relative performance of Shimadzu’s UV-Vis and Photodiode Array Detectors. The benchmark compounds used for the determination of UV sensitivity, visible sensitivity, and spectral resolution were Anthracene, Amaranth dye, and Benzene, respectively. The SPD-M10A and SPD-M10AV PDA detectors demonstrate comparable UV sensitivity. The SPD-M10AV PDA detector (simultaneously lit D2 and W lamps) demonstrates greater visible sensitivity than the SPD-M10A (D2 lamp only). The SPD-10AV UV-Vis detector shows approximately four times greater visible sensitivity than the SPD-M10AV. The SPD-M10AVP exhibits approximately four and one-half times higher sensitivity than the SPD-M10A or SPDM10AV, and the SPD-10AV UV-Vis detector demonstrates ~ 0.8 times more sensitivity than the SPD-M10AVP.
